I started strength training after back surgery in 1991 and after completing my initial rehabilitation have never looked back. I began competing competitively in powerlifting in 1995.
Work commitments kept me out of the sport from 1997 - 2000 and then 2001 was the beginning of a decade of injuries: starting with a shoulder reconstruction, followed by surgery to repair a torn bicep tendon and then later 4 surgeries over 4 years, plates and screws, for a fractured tibial plateau as a result of an motorcycle accident.
Never gaining full range in my left leg meant my power lifting days were over and I was basically just doing maintenance training until I came across Scott Jones first Gold Coast Strongest Man competition. From that very shaky start in Strongman I have not looked back and have enjoyed every competition since.
